Introduction Hi, today I want to share with you the basic knowledge of DIYing your own synthesizer modules - those do not need of the eurorack standard although in my case they are.
If you get started with eurorack format or any other modular like synth standard, but especially the eurorack standard - you will be most likely overwhelmed about the sheer number of manufacturers and available. You can have a simple look here on ModularGrid.

On my mobile setup, the NiftyVCase I have collected my diy modules (with excepition to the Doepfer A-124, I had to include for its great sound). It features a kick-drum from erica synths, an even VCO, Sampling Modulator, A*B+C and Rampage from Befaco. As well as the Divebomb III for some delay. Last but not least a Zlon skew lfo and a BCM086 Diode Ladder High pass filter.

This time, we have a convoluted patch, featuring a new member, the random sequencer from rat-king, which,as the name suggests, delivers nice randomly sequences. Also we have a new mixer module, self-build. We also utilize both VCOs and both LFO modules…

So here is another small patch idea for the Doepfer A-100 system, this time featuring the SEM filter from Oberheim, incarnated in the Doepfer modul A-106-5. We also utilize two LFO modules…

So here is another patch idea for the Doepfer A-100 system. The results of the Doepfer oscillators are pithlily "knarzig-kernige" sounds. We utilize two A-110 oscillator modules (one standard, one basic), a ring-modulator (A-114) and a wasp-filter (A-124), together with some utility modules like a sequencer and an LFO.

So I bought a low cost eurorack case from doepfer and a set of frontpanels plus power adapter for the pocket operator modular 400 from Oddvolt to put the said machine into a eurorack modular system. I also bought a small, but decent sequencer, since the one from teenage engineering is not very handy to use. I have two further modules on my list, the Doepfer A-119, an input module, as well as the Doepfer A-124, a wasp filter, to complete the setup.

With the random module we can sample & hold a signal from the input. Its companionship is the noise module. We feed the saw output to the input of the rand module.

sine output → speaker right
envelope output → sine key
LFO square → envelope trig
LFO square → sine fm

We can expand the setup by using the sequencer and utilize the filter.

An analog modular synthesizer was ever me dream, last week I fulfilled this dream of mine, and ordered the pocket operator modular 400 from the swedish company teenage engineering. Like furniture from the other popular swedish company you first have to build it yourself, before making any sound with it. This took me around 3 to 4 hours. But it was worth it.
Here are some patch ideas. In the first example we simply mix the outputs of all 3 oscillators together and control the sine oscillator with the triangle output of the LFO and the pulse width of the square oscillator with the LFO square.
